After the wait of long 10 years, test cricket will come back at Pakistan in this December, when Sri Lanka will play their World Test Championship matches in Rawalpindi and Karachi. Most of the major teams have avoided playing in Pakistan because of the terror attack in year 2009 on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore. In this attack, eight people were shot dead and several players were injured.
The first test will be held in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from 11 to 15th December. And the second final test will be played at the National Stadium, Karachi from 19 to 23rd December.
“This is my first tour to Pakistan,” said Sri Lankan Captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who opted out of the team’s recent limited-overs tour of Pakistan.
Karunaratne said it is now time to bring Test cricket back to Pakistan. “After the 2009 incident, players were scared to travel to Pakistan,” he said in a PCB podcast.
PCB chairman Ehsan Mani said in a statement, “11th December will be a very special day in Pakistan cricket history and it is appropriate that it is celebrated with Bandula Warnapura and Javed Miandad on our side.”
Pakistan looks to achieve this new opportunity by winning this series after being clean swept with 2-0 in Australia, they get defeated in both test matches in Brisbane and Adelaide.
